C.R.E.A.T.E Initiative 2007-2008

Last year we explored the Rhythms of Change and defined The Way Home through the Community Creative Process and new compositions, we welcomed the exotic rhythms of Byron Au Yong's Ji Mo and the rich rhapsody of Lawson Inada's spoken word...

This year we will embrace the enchanting world of Shohei Kikuchi. The renowned folk-dance choreographer will train, collaborate and perform with Portland Taiko for in an exciting suite of new works to debut at our 2008 Fall Concert, In the Footsteps of Our Ancestors. Activites include a study trip to Japan for PT's performers, as well as workshops and performances by Shohei Kikuchi here in Portland.

The CREATE Initiative will also fund the reworking of Portland Taiko's popular educational program, including the creation of a new story. The third and final piece of our CREATE 08 endeavors is the much anticipated recording and production of PT's next CD.

The goal of the 2007-2008 CREATE Initiative is to raise $50,000 to fund artistic and educational work, as well as the creation of our next CD in 2008!
